Cars, Vespas, airplanes, boats, flowers, golfers, and other symbols of contemporary life become the protagonists of a visual narrative that establishes a dialogue between the modern world and the imagery of Prehistory.
With the project “A Primitive in the Third Millennium”, Andrea Benetti explores the relationship between humanity’s earliest forms of artistic expression and the iconographic universe of the contemporary age. Through the language of Neo-Cave Art, the movement he conceived and theorized in the “Manifesto of Neo-Cave Art”, presented at the 53rd Venice Biennale, the artist imagines the perspective of a prehistoric man suddenly projected into our own time.
If Paleolithic artists depicted the animals, tools, and symbols that shaped their daily lives, what images would they choose today? Which subjects would become part of their visual vocabulary? From these questions emerges a body of work in which the symbols of the present are reinterpreted through an ancestral sensibility, creating an ideal bridge between the distant past and contemporary reality.
Hosted at Galleria Samonà, the prestigious exhibition space of the Municipality of Padua overlooking the city’s historic center, the exhibition invites visitors to observe the present from an unexpected perspective, reversing the conventional relationship between past and future.
“A Primitive in the Third Millennium” represents one of the most significant syntheses of Andrea Benetti’s artistic research, in which memory, symbol, and imagination converge to offer a new interpretation of the contemporary world through the timeless language of the art of human origins.
