Andrea Benetti
Andrea Benetti is an Italian visual artist, born in 1964. As a painter, photographer, and art designer, he is also the author of installations and video art works. In 2006, he conceived and drafted the Manifesto of Neo-Cave Art, which he presented in 2009 at the 53rd Venice Art Biennial, held at Ca’ Foscari University. In summary, the Manifesto is inspired by the origin of art, which originated in the caves of Prehistory. In his works, Andrea Benetti references, transforms, and reimagines concepts and forms of cave painting, creating an imaginary bridge between contemporary art and its origins. For several years, “Andrea Benetti” has been an encyclopedic entry, with biography in Treccani, De Agostini, WikiArt (the international art encyclopedia) and Wikipedia, where a detailed biography of the artist is available in thirty languages. In 2020, Andrea Benetti was awarded the 49th “Nettuno d’Oro” Award, the longest-running (1971) and most prestigious annual art award in the city of Bologna. For nearly two decades, Andrea Benetti has collaborated on projects with various universities, including the universities of Bari, Bergamo, Bologna, Ferrara, Johns Hopkins University, Lecce, Messina, Roma Tre and Venice.
Thanks to the collaborations developed over the years, Neo-Cave painting has been included by some universities in the university research program, in the field of contemporary art. Andrea Benetti ‘s works can be found in contemporary art museums and in many Italian and foreign institutional collections, including the art collection of the United Nations, the Presidency of the Italian Republic (Palazzo del Quirinale), the Chamber of Deputies(Palazzo Montecitorio), the Vatican, and several Italian Embassies. Thanks to these acquisitions, Andrea Benetti has been received at the Palazzo del Quirinale, the Chamber of Deputies and at the Vatican, where he met with Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 and Pope Francis in 2014. Many university professors of contemporary art history and and notable art critics have written about and analyzed Andrea Benetti’s work, actively participating in projects developed by the Emilian artist. Andrea Benetti‘s most recent exhibitions were held in Bologna at the headquarters of the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia Romagna Region, in London at the Oxo Tower, in Venice at Palazzo Zaguri, and in Milan at the ArTheoria Warehouse space.
