Colors and sounds from the Origins” by Andrea Benetti
curated by prof. Silvia Grandi

On Saturday, April 13, 2013, the exhibition “Colors and Sounds from the Origins” opened in Bologna’s Sala Ercole at D’Accursio Palace. A project by Andrea Benetti, curated by Silvia Grandi, with a musical performance by Frank Nemola, and sponsored by Johns Hopkins University and the DAR Department of the Arts, University of Bologna. Silvia Grandi, professor of Phenomenology of Contemporary Art, highlights the strong complementarity between the two artists. In her text, she emphasizes how “Nemola’s musical-sound improvisation, combined with the icons and colors of Andrea Benetti‘s works, makes it possible, in a current and distinctly contemporary way, to return to that primal and original sensoriality theorized more than forty years ago by McLuhan, who, with his concepts of ‘visual space’ and ‘acoustic space’ (The Medium is the Message, 1967), envisioned a return to a primordial sensory structure, rich in emotion and synesthetic faculties, made possible precisely through the spread of electronic media.”
