Andrea Benetti, a “cave” painter among the greats of the century
The Neo-Cave painting of the Bolognese artist Andrea Benetti arrives in Rome, alongside works by the masters of the 20th century. The exhibition, titled “Portraits d’artistes”, features paintings by Amedeo Modigliani, Giorgio De Chirico, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Max Jacob, Mario Schifano, Carlo Corsi, Jules Pascin, Guido Cadorin, and, starting from November 11—when it will be inaugurated at Palazzo Taverna—also “Prehistoric Woman”, a work by the Bolognese artist.
The retrospective is curated by the president of the Modigliani Institut, Professor Christian Parisot, who wanted to include Andrea Benetti’s work: “He had already contributed an essay to my book on ‘Unusual Exploration Within Speed’, and from there, a wonderful collaboration was born, which also led to the organization of exhibitions on Modigliani in Riccione and Modigliana,” explains the artist. “So, when they decided to set up ‘Portraits d’artistes’, they wanted to include my creation as well, which I made at the beginning of the year, always following my technique.”
Indeed, Benetti primarily uses natural substances to create his drawings on canvas: these are bas-reliefs on a plaster background, aged with natural substances such as tea, cocoa, and hibiscus (karkadè), followed by painting on canvas and, finally, an oil painting finish.
For “Prehistoric Woman”, the painter instead used diluted cocoa to achieve the brown color, along with crystallized pigments and oil paints.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until November 25, 2010.
