A special invitation to the 61st F. P. Michetti Award curated by Carlo Fabrizio Carli
In July 2010, the 61st Michetti Award, entitled “Diorama Italiano,” was curated by Carlo Fabrizio Carli. This international contemporary art award, dedicated to Francesco Paolo Michetti and held annually since 1947 in Francavilla al Mare, in the province of Chieti, is one of the most prestigious and longest-running contemporary art events in Italy. As with the Venice Biennale of Art, participation is by invitation only. In 2010, crowning a year of significant accomplishments, Andrea Benetti was invited to participate in the 61st Michetti Award. Andrea Benetti presented works inspired by the abstractionism of Neo-Cave painting.
Some of the most important artists of the second half of the twentieth century emerged from the art review of the Michetti Award. The same, if not more, can be said of the curators of the Award—certainly among the most prominent names in art criticism of the same period.
