Palazzo D’Accursio Fills with Gazes
Opening on Saturday at 6 PM, Faces Against Violence is the title of the photographic exhibition by Bologna-based artist Andrea Benetti, which will occupy the Manica Lunga of Palazzo D’Accursio until December 13.
The exhibition, dedicated to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, is sponsored by the Municipality and the Region.
“I am thrilled about this initiative, which, through eighteen gazes, will prompt reflection with just a glance,” explained Susanna Zaccaria, councilor responsible for combating violence. “The eyes photographed by Benetti, including my own, are far more impactful than images of women disfigured or beaten.”
The exhibition, open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM, is the result of Benetti’s artistic vision, as he chose to explore photography for this occasion, with the support of Silvia Grandi, curator of the exhibition and professor at the Department of Arts in Bologna. “We must keep our eyes open and report any form of violence—this is why I focused on women’s eyes,” Benetti stated, emphasizing that the subjects were chosen randomly and only natural light was used.
“A man who resorts to violence against a woman exposes his own worthlessness,” the artist concluded.
